Here are a few archival news clippings, provided by Bob Bell. The first is a radio program schedule from the Washington Post and Times Herald, as it was called in those days, from July 11 1955. This was the first day of the Two at One show on WRC radio that would eventually be called the Joy Boys show. (Click the image for a larger view.)

Three years earlier, on September 29 1952, this same program guide page mentioned the Walker and Scott show "Going AWOL" on WOL radio, and noted that they would be pinch-hitting for morning man Herb Davis. But WOL was not affiliated with one of the big four radio networks, so this information didn't make it into the program grid.

On August 20 1955, Lawrence Laurent wrote that the Two at One show was expanding to a full hour on WRC, from 1 to 2 PM, Monday through Friday. Laurent often wrote nice articles about the Walker-Scott duo for the Washington Post. This article went on to mention that Scott and Walker write their own comedy material... ranging from a take-off on radio soap opera to on-the-spot coverage of mythical sports events. Both are in their early 20s and became friends while working on the campus radio station at American University. They work in "Bob and Ray" fashion, using sometimes wicked satire to get laughs. The surest indication that Willard and Ed are doing well can be seen any day of the week. Their tiny studio is jammed with off-duty announcers and engineers.

Then on October 10 1963, Laurent wrote that Bob Kelly would move from WTOP radio to WRC, covering the 10am to noon and 2 to 4pm shifts, freeing the team of Ed Walker and Willard Scott... to shift to a nightly program from 8:05pm to midnight. That program would be known officially on WRC as the Night Watch, but unofficially it would always be the Joy Boys show.
