MILESTONES: 25 YEARS OF PROGRESS AND SUCCESS
(From Radio Recall, June 2009)

1984 Club founded on May 11th with a half dozen charter members.
1985 Audio and book libraries formed: 2nd issue of newsletter printed.
1986 OTR star Arthur Peterson honored with club’s first “Mikie” Award.
1987 Club members, led by Stan Cawelti, gave OTR presentations at the National Archives, NOVA Community College, and two senior citizen centers.
1988 Frank Bingman (announcer on Straight Arrow) addressed Club.
1989 Stan Cawelti died; later an award created in his honor, led by Ken Neal.
1990 Our newsletter first produced on computer, under editor Ken Neal.
1991 Audio Library holdings included over 600 cassettes.
1992 Club performed original radio play, broadcast by TV channel 8.
1993 Lennell Herbert elected president, becoming the first woman and first African-American to lead an OTR club in the U.S.
1994 Celebrated our 10th Anniversary at Cameron Station; membership up to 100.
1995 Lennell Herbert and Jack French guest star on Ed Walker’s Tribute to OTR on TV Channel 8.

Bob Burnham threatens to sue club over article in Radio Recall but cooler heads prevail.

1996 Club office of Secretary disbanded; duties divided between Treasurer and Membership Chair
1997 Club presented OTR program at The Newseum, which later aired on C-SPAN.

Club also got first member in Turkey when Edgar Farr Russell III was transferred there.

1998 Meeting site moved permanently to Trinity Church hall, thanks to Sedge Moss.
1999 Membership up to 190, including members in 29 states and Canada.
2000 Club members present to public OTR programs live at the Air and Space Museum.

Club membership reached 200 in July.

2001 August meeting with guest Sam Edwards broke attendance records: 61 in audience.
2002 Club web site officially launched, thanks to webmaster Bob Bybee.
2003 Elizabeth Minney, member in Texas, completed index of six years of Radio Recall.
2004 Role of Archivist created; Michael Hayde volunteered to serve in this capacity.
2005 “Gather Round the Radio” email bulletin begun by Mark Anderson.
2006 Club got first member in Africa: Neil Scott of South Africa.
2007 Radio Recall became available in full color via PDF sent in email, thanks to Bob Bybee.
2008 Audio Library holdings exceed 5,000 cassettes and 200 CDs.
2009 Club celebrates our 25th Anniversary.
