FINDING THOSE STATE OTR HISTORY BOOKS
by Melanie Aultman
(From Radio Recall, October 2010)
That was an interesting article about “States of Radio” in the August 2010 Radio Recall. I would assume readers would also try the Interlibrary Loan to locate those titles so they could borrow the books of their favorite states.
I recently looked them up in Wordcat Advanced Search and found the following copies held by libraries in their respective states:
ALABAMA 1
ARKANSAS Zero
CALIFORNIA 27 (+ Germany)
INDIANA 133
IOWA 37
KENTUCKY 38
MAINE 22
MISSISSIPPI Zero
MONTANA Zero
NEW HAMPSHIRE Zero
OKLAHOMA Zero
OREGON Zero
TEXAS 150 (+ Switzerland)
WASHINGTON 11 (+ Canada , Germany & UK)
WEST VIRGINIA 8
It is not really a surprise that those with older dates and/or obscure publishers are not(or are sparsely) represented. Nor is it unusual that most copies are in the topic state. Except for Alabama, low numbers like 8 are still worth trying. I once obtained one book that was only listed in 5 places.
